December is finally upon us and with it the nostalgia of Christmas music all around us, reams and reams of fairy lights illuminating our drive home and that love/hate relationship with Christmas shopping…
Make the most of those exciting weekends leading up to the big day and keep little hands busy in the excitement for Santa arriving with our festive ideas to fill your weekends with. After all, it will be over as quickly as it creeped up on us!
1. Ugly Jumper Party
Christmas jumpers, the more ghastly the better, have been experiencing something of a renaissance in recent years. Gone are the days of feeling embarrassed to wear the yearly monstrosity knitted with love by your aunt Eleanor, now you can wear it with pride!
With an increase in popularity of Christmas jumpers naturally the next step is to have a Christmas jumper party where the ugliest jumpers can all come together. It’s the perfect opportunity for a festive evening of silliness, Christmas music, games and treats. You can even do it for charity, raising money for Save the Children on their Christmas jumper day, December 16th!
2. Christmas Markets
With copious amounts of mulled wine & cider and an all manner of culinary delights on offer, wrapping up for an evening & going out for an evening at a Christmas market is an excellent way to embrace the festive spirit. Christmas markets are super popular nowadays, take a look online and see where’s the nearest one to you. They’re also a great place to find unique handmade gifts so maybe you’ll even get a bit of Christmas shopping done while you’re there!
3. Bake some Christmas Treats
Everyone knows the time of year for indulgence is the festive period - why not embrace that by trying your hand at baking some Christmas treats?
While there are an exponential amount of Christmas recipes out there, we’re particular fans of these delicious looking salted caramel brownies & cranberry and orange shortbread if you’re after something a bit different. Why not try making mulled wine or cider too? Or home made hot chocolate? This ginger bread hot chocolate is bound to go down a treat!
4. DIY Christmas Decorations
Getting the tree up and decorated is the highlight of Christmas decorating but what about the rest of your home? If you feel the rest of your house is lacking in comparison and you don’t want to spend loads to get it looking festive, why not spruce it up with a few of these DIY Christmas decor ideas? They’re super simple meaning they’re the perfect activity for you and your little ones. Stick on a bit of Christmas music and get going!
We love these lolly pop stick snowflakes (minimalist and very “scandi” style!) and these DIY underwater festive forests would look great on a coffee table or by the hearth. Pallet Christmas trees are also really popular and super easy to make.
