Christmas is coming and we’ll all be thinking towards feathering our nests for the festive season very shortly. With that in mind, here are five simple ideas to shake up your holiday décor this year. Cost effective and hassle free, they’ll allow more time for restful moments with family and friends in a perfectly decked abode.

1. Outside In
Bring natural elements into your home this year and embrace time foraging in the great outdoors through this Winter season too. There are so many varieties of foliage that can give that outside/in feel.
Fill your home with suspended branches (wrap fairy lights around for a unique feature!), Winter plants and natural materials. Hessian, string and zinc and copper containers add to the look.
2. Homemade Wreaths
Making your own door wreath (or indoor wreath too!) isn’t as difficult as you’d maybe expect. Try a wreath making course if you are a newbie, or experiment with creating your own at home too. Fill an oasis ring with foraged ivy or holly as a base layer, then build your wreath out with pine cones, dried orange and cinnamon sticks. Don’t forget to wire it all in with floristry wire and you are done!
3. Handmade Gifts
Creating your own gifts this season is a unique way to let someone know that you are thinking of them. Rather than hitting busy shops and spending stressful evenings battling crowds, instead take a few moments to put something simple together. Play some festive tunes and light a fire for the perfect hygge moments.
This succulent jar is so simple to make. Glass jars can be bought inexpensively, and simply fill with a layer of soil, some mini plants and top with gravel. You might just want to keep it yourself!
4. Re-purpose
From old decorations to things you may already have around your home, think of new ways to use old things. Hang old artificial wreaths indoors, or use them as rings for church candles in table centrepieces. Baubles or decorations that are missing ribbons can be placed on kitchen dressers or piled up on glass cake stands or vases for a twinkly look. Fill glass bowls with sweets in metallic wrappers – a welcome treat for guests who happen to call.
5. Mix and Match
We’ve come a long way from the days of perfectly coordinated everything. Interiors trends are favouring a much more eclectic feel this festive season. From mismatched crockery, to piles of blankets in contrasting shades, jewel coloured Christmas tree baubles and metallic on glassware, everything is opulent and quirky too.
