What Makes Our Fabrics Unique?

Lighthouse creates beautifully made clothing for everyday adventures, come rain or shine. Whether it's a day out to the beach, a city break or a weekend coastal retreat, our clothing will keep you dry, warm and protected from Mother Nature's unpredictability.

Our design goes beyond just creative and trend-led prints and patterns. We have created garments that are functional and practical for grey skies and rainy days.

We have broken down the technical terminology, so you can find out all about the details that make our fabrics and rainwear so special.

What does Waterproofness (5000MM) mean?

This number is the measurement that is used to judge the level of waterproofness of a fabric. The test involves placing a long column on top of a sample of the garment's material, then filling it with water. The water level is increased until the fabric starts to leak. In our case, we have an impressive 5000mm, or 5 metres worth of waterproofness on most of our raincoats and jackets.

What does Breathability (5000GSM) mean?

Our fabric is tested to determine how easy it is for water vapour to travel from the inside to the outside. A breathable jacket will be more comfortable to wear, and will keep you warmer as condensation doesn't have a chance to build up! The test is done by measuring the amount of water vapour (in grams) that pass through a 1 metre square of the fabric.

What are fully taped seams and what do they do?

The stitching of the garment is normally a weak point of the clothing, as the wind and water can seep through the tiny holes. We use a heat-shrunk taping on our stitched seams, in order to eliminate leakage.

What does anti-pill brushed fleece mean?

Anti-Pill Brushed means the fabric is smooth finish and will not ball like other fleeces.
